TNA House Show Report - Manchester, England (January 27, 2012)
(2) TNA tag champion Crimson beat Douglas Williams. Second night in a row Crimson was heavily booed.
(3) A.J. Styles beat Gunner. A.J. was hugely over.
(4) Mickie James & Tara beat Knockouts tag champions Gail Kim & Madison Rayne in a non-title match.
(5) TNA World Hvt. champion Robert Roode beat Samoa Joe to retain the World Title. This was taped for Xplosion - Joe won an Xplosion #1 contender tournament to get a title shot on the U.K. Tour. Roode won the match clean. The crowd was phenomenally behind Joe, who got the biggest face heat to that point.
The main event was scheduled to be James Storm & Sting v. Bully Ray & Kurt Angle. Roode then came out to demand a three-on-two. Sting then brought out Hogan to "Eye of the Tiger" to make it three-on-three.
(6) Hulk Hogan & Sting & James Storm beat TNA World Hvt. champion Robert Roode & Bully Ray & Kurt Angle in a six-man tag match. The match was the same as last night's main event.
It was possibly the best crowd I've ever heard in this country. Amazing. Jeremy Borash was back to doing announcing and pumping up the crowd. Christy Hemme also helped. JB makes a huge difference, though, getting the crowd going.

Hulk Hogan Interview Roundup: His Time In TNA, Robert Roode and More

Hulk Hogan spoke to The Daily Star newspaper:
On the perception some fans have that he is in TNA with bad intentions:
"Even though I’m not wres- tling, some people still perceive that as a threat. ‘Hogan didn’t give Roode the belt, he’s a no-good SOB, he never let anybody win, he did it all for himself. You get to a point where you go: ‘Thank God they’re thinking that way’!”
On booking the sudden heel change of Robert Roode at the last second.
"I was sitting watching Roode’s parents saying what a great son he is and his wife saying what a great husband he is and his kids saying what a great dad he is. He’s the ultimate good guy. He’s going to win the belt! But then what? Who does he wrestle? So I sat back and thought: ‘You guys have just done one of the best old school wrestling angles I’ve ever seen.’ If you turn him heel you give him that edge, give him that extra spice – then he’ll have everyone to work with, rather than throw him out there and set him up for failure. It was just me trying to take a step back, throwing in my two cents. They didn’t have to do it – I didn’t make anyone do anything. It just makes sense.”
Hogan also spoke with UK Talk Sport on a variety of subjects.
On how Hogan would rate the current breed of TNA Wrestlers:
"We've got a kid that's been around for a while named A.J. Styles, which is on fire. They call him the Phenomenal One. He's got a brilliant future. We've got another kid, Jeff Hardy, that's already there. He's rocking and rolling. And my old partner, who I never dreamed would have so much gas in the tank, Sting. Sting's on fire. I have no idea when he's going to quit. He's lighting the whole world up again. We've got some really great guys."
Hogan also spoke with CTV News, mostly about his back issues and the electric stimulator implant.
Hogan mentions how his back implant works and its hilarious side effects:
"It's an electric stim you know? If the pain in my back is too bad and it goes to my head, there's an electrical current that I can turn on that will cancel out any pain waves, it pretty much makes you so you don't feel the pain. It's not a drug, it's just electricity. I've got like a garage door controller with all these buttons on how intense I want to make it, my nipples stand on end if I want to! And my wiener stands straight. It's much better than Viagra!"
TNA Producer Eric Bischoff also joked about the electrical implant:
When he's walking down a small neighbourhood he opens every garage door on the street!"
Finally, Hogan spoke to Sportsvibe concerning a number of things.
On what wrestlers fans should be looking out for in the near future:
"There are a lot of great guys in TNA, with the current champion Bobby Roode, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. There are a lot of talented guys but the wrestling part in the ring is only ten per cent of this business and they have to learn more than just that. There's a lot more to the business than having a five-star match, there's the media cross over, being in character, knowing when to break character, knowing how to deal with a locker-room full of men or knowing how to deal with a room full of kids that have cancer.
As soon as these guys figure that out and get off this 'I'm a TNA original' out of their mindset and look at the bigger picture, I think more of them will be like Bobby Roode and start to step up.
One guy that is doing that is Christopher Daniels, he's starting to step out of that mould. When I see Daniels and shake his hand I say 'Good morning super hero.' I call him super hero because that's what he's going to be. He's got the look, he's got attitude, plus he's so smart and is really stepping up."
On Ric Flair being inducted into the WWE hall of fame again:
"I think it's great, everybody is being very open and Dixie Carter is open and the lines of communication are open. It's great that the two companies can agree on this and have a common bond because Ric Flair has been a staple in this industry, and as they are going to induct the Four Horsemen in the Hall of Fame it's only right Ric Flair is there.
It's like the WWE saying Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair were never here just because we're now with TNA. It doesn't make sense because people know we were there and helped build that company. I think with the lines of communication opening it's good business for everybody."
On Missing out on the grill deal that George Foreman eventually took:
You mean the George Foreman grill? Me and George had the same agent and I started picking up the kids from school but they were upset with me because even though I was there before they got out of school all the other soccer mums would get there a half hour early so I was at the end of the line.
One day I told my kids I would get there early and I was the first one there and the kids were really excited. When I got back home I checked my phone message my agent said 'hey hogan, I've got something for you and George, I've got a grill and a blender and I've called you first to see which one you wanted to pick'. I called my agent back and he said 'you weren't home so I called George and he picked the grill'.
Well $400,000,000 later George had the George Foreman grill and I got stuck with a blender that had one small battery and if you put eight ounces of water in it and a scoop of protein it would spin, fart and turn off. The blender only made half-a-million dollars not the $400,000,000 that's still selling. Missing that one phone call changed my life financially.
After that they came up with the Hulk Hogan grill and I actually came to the UK two or three years ago and was on QVC with Billy Mays from Oxi Clean and we set records for sales and then that was it for the grill it kind of went away.

Ring Ka King Wrester Talks About The Promotion And His Time In India
Speaking On TNA's Ring Ka King promotion in India and teaming with Chavo Guerrero:
"Ring Ka King was a good experience. Teaming with Chavo was great, both being apart of wrestling families, I think we had good chemistry and formed a good team. My first tour of India I came home and got sick, and this tour I got food poisoning. The Indian people are so friendly and have great hearts, but the food and surroundings I'm not so sure about."

TNA House Show Report - Nottingham, England (January 26, 2012)

TNA held their first show in Nottingham tonight. I attended the show first hand and here are the results and my impressions.
The Capital FM Arena was around just over 3/4 full, with about 1/3 of the arena tarped off. I'd estimate there were between 4,000 and 5,000 in attendance (the arena's capacity is 10,000, and the 2/3 they used seats around 6,500) which was a considerable amount more than I was expecting.
The show opened with our host Christy Hemme coming to the ring. There was no Don West or the usual "loudest fans come backstage".
Match 1: Gunner vs Doug Williams
Gunner came out to some decent heat, and also Doug Williams' theme. Williams got a large pop, and had Gunner's titantron. The crowd was chanting "England" several times throughout the match. Gunner used several generic heel tactics throughout the match, and gave the crowd the middle finger a couple of times. Doug got the win in just under 10 minutes with the chaos theory.
Match 2: Crimson vs Samoa Joe
Immediately after match 1 had ended, Crimson's music started playing. Christy funnily enough billed him as "the defeated Crimson". After Crimson's entrance, Christy introduced Earl Hebner, who did the usual "you screwed Bret" stuff. Earl came out to Samoa Joe's music initially, which was kind of a spoiler. After Earl's routine, Joe made his entrance to a large pop. Crimson started to garner a fair amount of heat after this, which soon turned into X-Pac heat. Joe dominated this match from early on, and you could tell he was putting a lot of effort into it. After spilling out onto the floor several times, Earl decided it was enough and called for a double DQ. Joe and Crimson brawled to the back after the match.
Match 3: Alex Shelly vs Mark Haskins vs Austin Aries for the X Division Championship
Alex Shelley entered first. Mark Haskins was being billed from Nottingham, although he's actually from Oxford. Aries got the largest pop out of the three. Aries managed to get Haskins and Shelley to fight each other at first, and sat on a steel chair at ringside waiting for a chance to capitalise. Shelley was sent to the floor and Aries fought Haskins in a good back-and-forth. Shelley was kicked off the apron several times when he tried to get in the ring. He managed to get in the ring when Aries was setting up for a superplex on Haskins, and picked Aries up to try and go for the Electric Chair, although he escaped from it. Haskins tried a hurricanrana on Shelley who reversed it into a powerbomb. Aries then threw Shelley out of the ring and hit Haskins with a brainbuster for the win. Haskins showed a tremendous amount of skill in this match, and was able to easily keep pace with Aries and Shelley.
Match 4: Tara vs Madison Rayne vs Mickie James vs Gail Kim in a 4-way match.
Tara and Mickie took pictures with and hugged fans as they were making their entrances. Mickie got the biggest pop out of the four. Earl Hebner held up the Knockouts Title before the bell, even though Hemme didn't announce this as a title match. Gail and Madison double-teamed Tara to start, and dominated the match. Mickie botched a baseball slide dropkick at one point around halfway through. Tara eventually hit the Widow's Peak on Madison, whom Earl tried to wake up, allowing Gail to hit her finisher on an unsuspecting Tara for the win.
After this match was the intermission, when the ring crew tightened and cleaned the sweat off the ring ropes while the crowd got drinks.
Match 5: Bully Ray vs AJ Styles
Bully Ray's music hit, and the spotlight focused on the entrance for about a minute before he finally came out, while we speculated if he was a no-show. He cut a promo on how much England sucks and challenged a man form the crowd to fight him. The man jumped the guardrail and stood at ringside daring Bully Ray to come down. Ray told security to throw him out, but they did nothing. AJ Styles' music hit as Bully Ray was mid-promo and he got a massive pop. The crowd livened up a lot for this match, which was a great back-and-forth that made both wrestlers look phenomenal. the crowd was chanting "Pussy Ray" almost the whole way through. Before the match, both wrestlers took turns to stand on the turnbuckles to try and get a crowd reaction. AJ managed to get Christy and Earl to do the same, and the crowd was chanting for the ring crew to as well.
After a few minutes, the match finally got underway. At one point, Ray did the Flair strut to continuous "WOO!" chants from the crowd. Ray later tried to leave, but AJ stopped him and dragged him back to the ring. AJ dominated for a while, but as he went for a springboard, Ray shook the ropes to make him fall off. AJ got a couple of near falls and went for the Styles Clash, which Ray reversed into a backdrop. He went for the bully bomb, which Styles reversed into a victory roll for the win. Ray attacked AJ after the match, and quickly left. AJ celebrated with the fans after he recovered.
Match 6: James Storm vs Bobby Roode for the World Heavyweight Championship
James Storm got a bigger pop than AJ did in the previous match, and Roode got some decent heat which steadily increased throughout the match. Before the match started, Roode made a promo about how Beer money is dead and he killed it. A short while through, Bobby tried to leave but Storm stopped him. At one point I think one of the two smashed a beer bottle on the other, but I'm not sure as my vantage point wasn't that good. Roode DQ'd himself after low blowing Storm. A great back-and-forth which made Storm look great.
After the match, Hemme said she regretted that the title did not change hands, at which point Sting's music hit and he came to the ring in wrestling gear, facepaint and the biggest pop of the night so far. Sting called to restart the match and cut a promo about how nobody's nuts were getting squashed tonight. At this point Kurt Angle's music hit to mixed reactions from the crowd. Angle said he was sick and tired of Sting and said he wanted a tag team match between him & Roode and Storm & Sting. Bully Ray came out and said he agreed with Angle, but he wanted to make it 3 on 2. Sting praised Nottingham and said the nearby city of Derby sucks, and then said he has a third tag team partner for him and Storm too, at which point the lights darkened and "Eye of the Tiger" started playing to steadily increasing cheers. At this point, Hulk Hogan came out and the crowd went mad. Hogan had the biggest pop of the night by far.
Match 7: James Storm, Sting and Hulk Hogan vs Bobby Roode, Kurt Angle and Bully Ray
Hogan started off doing pretty much the same thing he did at BFG, and didn't take any bumps. He choked Roode with his bandana and Angle and Ray double teamed him a few times. Hogan tagged to Sting, who no-sold Roode's offence before hitting him with the Stinger splash before putting him in the Scorpion Deathlock. Ray and Angle broke the hold a couple of times, but Sting put it back on. While Angle was in the ring, Roode and Ray double-teamed Storm on the outside. Hogan tagged in and tore his shirt off to another huge pop before pointing the finger of doom at Roode, who took a big boot and several clotheslines. Again, Angle and Ray interfered but met the same fate. Storm tagged in and tried to copy Hogan calling to the crowd before hitting an assisted leg drop on Roode for the win. The crowd popped again, and the winning team celebrated for around 10 minutes to end the show.
